With O.J. Mayo and Rudy Gay around, the Grizzlies will be able to score. Memphis needed to get better on defense to have any choice at even competing in the West. My NBA TV colleague Bruce Pearl, the head coach at Tennessee, summarized it succinctly: In his opinion, Young (the second-round gift) was the best defender at this position (small forward) in college basketball last season. DeMarre Carroll, the Grizzlies' second first-rounder, was the best defender at his position (power forward) in college basketball last season. And Hasheem Thabeet, taken second overall, was obviously the best defensive center last season. Having Thabeet will allow Lionel Hollins to move Marc Gasol from center to power forward. And all of a sudden, Memphis will go from one of the smallest frontcourts in the league to one of the biggest.
Did Memphis have the best Draft of anyone?

Man City make approach for Eto'o!!
The Spanish club's president Joan Laporta claimed City have made the 28-year-old Cameroon international a "stratospheric offer" to join them.
Reports have suggested the Eastlands club have offered Eto'o wages of up to £250,000 per week, which would make him the highest-paid player in the world.
City refused to confirm or deny that they have made an offer.
Eto'o joined Barcelona in 2004, signing from Mallorca for a fee of about £16m, and has since scored more than 100 goals in his five seasons with the club.
He helped the Catalan side to win a treble trophy haul of the Spanish league title, domestic cup and Champions League in the 2008-2009 campaign.
I am not sure that the demanding and tough Premier League will do the not very physical Samuel Eto'o any good - he will just be another fairly good player here
Mike_The_Blue
Eto'o scored the opening goal in the Champions League final in Rome as Barcelona beat Manchester United 2-0.
In doing so he became only the second player, after Raul, to score in two Champions League finals because Eto'o was also on target in Barcelona's 2-1 victory against Arsenal in 2006.
Already this summer City have signed striker Roque Santa Cruz from Blackburn for £18m and Aston Villa midfielder Gareth Barry for £12m.
And it is believed City are also chasing Manchester United forward Carlos Tevez, who is soon to be out of contract, and Everton defender Joleon Lescott.
Espanyol have also confirmed that City are keen to sign their 16-year-old midfielder Joan Angel Roman.BBC.SPORTS

Forty years after the first pan-Africa Festival held in Algiers in 1969, Algeria is going to host the Second Pan-Africa Cultural Festival form 5th to 20th July, 2009.
48 African countries will participate officially. The United States of American and brazil which have strong African communities, will also take part to this important festival.
The circumstances of organizing the first festival are completely different from the ones of the second festival. The 1969 festival was organzed under the banner of freedom and liberation because many African countries w ere under the colonial domination. However, after 40 years, Algeria and Africa reached success and development so the African continent comes back with a new slogan that is the African renaissance. Algeria and the African countries had provided all means in order to participate strongly in this cultural meeting.
More than 8000 participants will be present during the second edition of the pan=-African Cultural Festival.
The continental event offers a new opportunity to Africa, almost totally freed, at last, from the colonial domination, to show the extraordinary variety of its peoples and their sensational creativity in all cultural and artistic fields (heritage, the after, music, choreography, cinema, literature, comic strip, visual arts, arts and crafts, etc0. The African Union and the African Governments are already committed and ready for this great event.

THIS WEEK ON STUDIO 53, TRAVEL IN TANZANIA, FASHION IN GUINEA PLUS COFFEE TASTING IN ZAMBIA
This week Studio 53 comes to audiences from Walvis Bay in Namibia. Tune in as the M-Net lifestyle program’s presenters speak to Tanzanian business man James Sekei, profiles Guinea’s rising fashion designer Talibe Bah, explore the beautiful Sesse Islands in Uganda, savour coffee in Zambia and get to know Congolese born beauty, Joelle Kayembe only on DStv.
First stop is Tanzania where Fareed caught up with one of East Africa’s biggest DJ’s - DJ Bushbaby. Michael Owori a.k.a the Bush in Tanzania has his finger in many endeavours, but he’s primarily known for being a radio DJ and journalist. Fareed took the opportunity to talk to - Michael about his new album, his likes, dislikes and his dreams, to one day be able set up a DJ academy to help up and coming DJ’s.
Next DStv audiences are invited to West Africa, where Africans are painting the world in vibrant colour combinations and dazzling patterns. Join Studio 53’s IK, who was lucky enough to meet Talibe Bah who is one of Guinea’s leading Designers. Talibe specializes in making women’s clothing with a flair for ethnic fabrics and a passion for contemporary styles and designs. His beautiful Designs have earned him the title of being one of Guinea’s top designers.
Also in the show Tanzanian business man, James Sekei who has not only carved himself a niche in the tourism industry but is also a major player in many other fields. With the help of Ssese Island Guide Thomson Abraham Oboth Gaetano was able to experience the best the Island had to offer.
Next stop is Zambia, where Ndaka had an opportunity to taste the rich aroma of freshly grounded coffee from the plantations of Lusaka. Her Journey started off with stepping onto a coffee plantation just outside Lusaka, this was an experience that will give a new-found respect for the humble coffee bean. NBA DRAFT PICK 2009!
WHAT: NBA DRAFT PICK 2009
WHOM HASHEEM THABIT
WHEN:JUNE 25th 2009 7pm-12am AT
Sore shoulder forces Thabeet to ax workout with Grizzlies!!
Memphis officials have already met with Thabeet twice in preparation for Thursday's NBA Draft. Wallace said he expects to meet Thabeet later this week, but probably not for a workout.
The draft's top-rated big man, Thabeet averaged 13.6 points, 10.8 rebounds and 4.2 blocks (second in the nation) for the Huskies last season, when he was co-Big East player of the year.
A number of projections have him going to the Grizzlies with the No. 2 pick, others have Memphis taking Spanish point guard Ricky Rubio. The Los Angeles Clippers are expected to take Oklahoma forward Blake Griffin at No. 1.
The debate on Thabeet is that he is not an offensive presence, has only adequate rebounding numbers and may not be strong enough to battle in the post. But there also is the potential for continued improvement. The native of Tanzania did not start playing basketball until he was 15.
Sunday's cancellation does not affect the Grizzlies' consideration of Thabeet, although Wallace didn't reveal his draft plans.
"We go on what they do in their careers. That's the vast majority of your final grade," Wallace said. "The workout has very little to do with it. You're just covering yourself with the workout."
With Thabeet's cancellation, the Grizzlies watched Jordan Hill, the 6-10 forward-center out of Arizona, and Demar DeRozan, a guard-forward from USC, in individual workouts.
