The bank of Africa (BOA) has spent more than Sh8bn to boost agriculture in the country.Speaking in Morogoro yesterday while presenting mattresses to the Kilombero floods victims, the Banks Managing director, Kobby Andah said though the bank has a network of around twelve branches in the country but they are opening more so as to make businessmen and farmers access their services country wide.“After opening a branch in Morogoro we have dealing with the Mtibwa Sugar and the out growers and we look forward to deal with more people to support the government efforts on ‘Kilimo Kwanza’ so as to make the country sustain itself in food production” said Andah.
The Minister of Finance who is also the MP for Kilosa Mustapha Mkullo assured the bank will get all the support in increasing the network in the country and urged the management to also eye the Kilombero out growers since the cane agriculture in the area is more huge in the area.“I thank you for eying Morogoro but I think there will be more business for you if you eye Kilombero because there a lot of out growers and the sugar production is the highest in the country” he said.He thanked the banks support for the flood victims and urged more people to support because there are more than 10,000 people who have been displaced by floods and they need help.
The Assistant General Manager- Commercial banking, Wasia Mushi said with the number of customers growing in the country thus making the bank to plan to open more branches in the country so as to offer services to more Tanzanians.The bank which was established in the country in 2007 has so far opened eight branches in Dar es Salaam and has four more branches in Morogoro, Arusha and Mwanza and in near future they will open more branches in Mbeya and Tunduma while eying more areas for expansion.
