Two of the traditional giants of European football clash in a mouth-watering pre-season friendly as Bayern Munich host Real Madrid at the Allianz Arena on Friday, live on your World of Champions.
Bayern were double winners in Germany last season and got their new campaign off to the perfect start with a comfortable 2-0 success over Schalke in the DFB Supercup at the weekend. They are the team to beat in Germany this year, but coach Louis van Gaal will have some personal reasons to want a win in this one too.
He has previously had two spells in charge of Real’s archrivals Barcelona, and nothing would please him more than to sow the seeds of doubt in the Madrid team’s pre-season plans. Real coach Jose Mourinho has been working hard at putting his personal stamp on the Spanish side he joined in June from European champions Inter Milan.
Mourinho plotted the downfall of Bayern in the UEFA Champions League title-decider in May, and now has a quick return fixture against the side. Pre-season friendlies count for little in the greater scheme of things, but nobody wants to lose a high-profile fixture such as this one.
