THE LAUNCH OF MULTICHOICE RESOURCE CENTRES IN TANZANIA ON 10 MARCH 2010 AT JANGWANI SEC. SCHOOL!!

We are exceptionally proud to be here at Jangwani Secondary School today to launch 20 MultiChoice Resource Centres in Tanzania.
The resource centres are curremtly in Dar es Salaam, Morogoro, Iringa, Kagera region and Arusha.
These 20 Multichoice Resource Centres will join other similarly equipped and supported schools in over 20 other countries throughout the continent in realizing Multichoice’s vision of harnessing technology for the betterment of education for a much richer and brighter future.
This vision is supported by our belief that corporate social investment is about investing in the very communities we are operating in. It’s about making strategic decisions, often involving `non-financial` assets, and working in partnerships with government, business and communities to meet national development priorities.
Generally, digital satellite technology permits far-reaching penetration of the African continent, penetration that transcends borders, countries, cultures and mindsets. The technology facilitates pervasive access to information from all over the world in ways never possible before.
It has enabled MultiChoice to offer multi-channel, high quality audio and video television programming 24 hours a day. Subscribers can enjoy an ever-increasing diversity of channels, crystal clear pictures and high quality sound regardless of their geographical location.
Our experience and ownership of this technology has enabled us to take it beyond the business of pay television to improving the delivery of educational learning in Africa’s classrooms.
In the several countries that this initiative has been active, it has been conclusively proven to be effective in improving the interest of the learners in their subject material. We have received the same feedback from our pilot schools in Tanzania.
It has also been found to have significantly enhanced the understanding of what is taught in the classroom.
The MultiChoice Resource Centre Initiative aims to:
Provide access to high quality learning resources to learners and teachers
Extend scarce teaching resources to a wider and diverse audience
Deploy technology in a cost effective manner to improve education and not as an end to itself
It is therefore enormously satisfying for us to make this meaningful contribution in Tanzania.
We see this initiative as an important means to expand opportunities for teachers and children. We trust that they will benefit from the resources and that it will assist in developing learners into talented, innovative citizens of the continent. For it is talent and innovation that will power and sustain the African Century.
Our aim is to place 100 Multichoice Resource Centres in Tanzania over the next five years.
We would also like to extend our gratitude to the Ministry Of Education and Vocational Training for collaborating with us in this initiative, and in ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of the programme.
