Mimi’s Out. Johan’s In. munya’s away…

The surprises keep coming on big brother africa!

the surprises keep coming on big brother africa!October 2008It was a massive BIG BROTHER AFRICA show on M-Net last night (October 19), as DStv audiences watched 27-year-old Ghanaian Mimi become the fifth housemate evicted from the popular reality series! And in an exciting surprise twist to the game, an unexpected visitor, Johan from Big Brother Finland, prepared made his entrance into the African show! The latest Big Brother Africa Sunday show kicked off with a performance by award-winning South African hip hop group Koldproduk. Next audiences got a sneak peek at Sheila’s busy post-eviction media interview day, before she flew back to Nairobi where she was greeted by hordes of fans and fielded questions at a press conference. Viewers also saw Nigerian housemate Uti’s eviction party back home – and what a fun night it was as Uti danced, celebrated and had a great time meeting and greeting fans! Then it was time for this week’s big announcement…who would be leaving this week? KB asked Uganda’s Morris to reveal if he had used his power as Head of House to influence this week’s nominations. “I’m leaving it to Mother Africa to decide” Morris said simply, having decided against changing the nominations. Shortly after Morris’s declaration, with Africa holding its breath, KB revealed that Mimi would be the next to leave. After a second of shock, the Ghanaian reluctantly left the house and joined KB on stage. Surprised to have been evicted, Mimi said that life would go on. “I know the housemates will be surprised that I won’t be going back”, she said. And how right she was – as Africa watched Thami and TK rejoin their clearly-shocked housemates.“Everyone’s a player in there,” said Mimi. “People have confusing strategies, and it’s not easy. All the people in there are smart people and every time you change your strategy, they change theirs and it’s tough!” she said. She was surprised to see that Munya and Hazel had nominated her, but expected it from Morris and Tawana. “Munya played Ricco and I – Ricco should be careful,” said Mimi. “But you can’t blame anyone for playing you in there.”“What will you miss about the house?” asked KB. “The Big Brother house would be nothing without the people in it,” said Mimi “So I’ll miss them the most!”With that she walked down the ramp to greet her mother, ending her 56-day stay in Big Brother Africa. Africa clearly felt that it was Mimi’s time to go, as she picked up 10 votes (Botswana, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe and the Rest of Africa) to 3 for TK (Angola, Ghana and Namibia), while Thami didn’t collect a single country vote.Meanwhile, in a surprise twist to the game, the Big Brother Africa house has swapped a housemate with Big Brother Finland. During the week, Munya’s imaginative Fortune Cookie message won him an unexpected trip. He was mysteriously whisked from the Diary Room and onto a plane at OR Tambo Airport in Johannesburg heading to Finland. In exchange, a Finnish contestant joined Big Brother Africa last night. 22 year-old lifeguard Johan has already spent 8 weeks in the Big Brother Finland house and is looking forward to experiencing new cultures.Johan spent his first night in Big Brother Africa in the Penthouse before being introduced to his new housemates on Monday morning. And before he entered the house, Big Brother tasked Johan with memorising some African-language phrases to use when he met his new housematesThe surprise swap with Big Brother Finland caps an eventful and exciting week on Big Brother Africa. This week, the housemates’ task had an international focus, as they joined the United Nations in fighting poverty as part of the global Stand Up and Take Action campaign. Special guest Dr Tajudeen Abdul-Raheem entered the house and explained the history of the campaign, leaving the housemates shirts and posters to help them complete their task – they had to compose a poverty theme song, bake Fortune for Africa biscuits and make a difference in the house. Hazel and Thami also finally made peace. The two were not on speaking terms until Tuesday. In what was a busy week for Thami, he started to show feelings for Hazel, only to discover the feeling was not mutual. He stopped speaking to her and she did the same but they kissed and made up and promised never to fight again. And there was more drama…a few minutes before midnight on Monday, Mimi became seriously ill, and Morris and Big Brother called in a doctor. Most housemates thought it was just a prank but later on realised it was real. Mimi wasn’t the only one in trouble, though, as Angolan serial nominee Ricco suffered through a vicious toothache but refused to see the doctor. When he eventually relented, he received bad news: if he didn’t have the tooth removed, it would start affecting his ear! Biggie booked him an appointment with the dentist. Both Mimi and Ricco are on antibiotics, Mimi was advised to eat before taking medication and Ricco has to take his medicine but will have the tooth extracted at a later stage. Now with less than 6 weeks to go before the big Finale, don’t miss a second of the 24/7 coverage on DStv Channel 198.
