SuperSport’s already impressive Fifa World Cup line-up has been supplemented by the addition of further ex-football stars.
Joining the illustrious SuperSport panel are former Ghana and Bayern Munich star Samuel Kuffour, Nigeria’s World Cup ’94 captain Steven Keshi, former Bafana goalkeeper Rowen Fernandes, and Mido, the ex-Ajax and Spurs striker who represented Egypt in over 50 internationals.

Big names Boudewijn Zenden, Mark Bosnich and Robbie Slater will also appear sporadically on the World of Champions.
Among the other pundits are African football giant Kalusha Bwalya, ex-Nigerian star Daniel Amokachi, former England international John Barnes, Edgar Davids of Holland and Tottenham Hotspur, Gary Mabbutt, Gary Bailey, Doctor Khumalo, Shaun Bartlett and Andre Arendse.
Apart from broadcasting all 64 matches, SuperSport will broadcast the World Cup concert on the eve of the tournament, with live coverage on SuperSport 3 and SuperSport HD from 9pm on Thursday.
Artists include Shakira, John Legend, Black Eyed Peas, Vusi Mahlasela, Alicia Keys, K’Naan, Angelique Kidjo and the Parlotones.
With the World Cup just days away, plans are well on track at SuperSport HQ in Johannesburg.
The state-of-the-art HD studio has been utilised during the past week and has been well received. Carte Blanche, M-Net’s hard-hitting news show, even broadcast from there on Sunday night.
“There have been a few tweaks, but we’re ready to go,” said Tex Teixeira, SuperSport’s head of channels. “We are determined to deliver a world class product that does justice to an event as big as the World Cup.”
All of SuperSport’s 2010 studio shows will be broadcast from the HD studio: Harambee, Supernova and Woza Lunchtime.
Chase the Makarapa, a daily show with a strong emphasis on social media, will be broadcast daily from around South Africa from June 11.
The show’s international participants, who come from Nigeria, Poland, Brazil, China, India and SA, will daily “Chase the Makarapa” in search of tickets for nine matches, including the final. Every step of the way they will chart their progress online by means of blogs, Twitter, Facebook and mobi sites in their respective territories.
For the World Cup, SuperSport will have four customised World Cup channels.
As exclusive pay TV rights holders for Africa (where 10-million+ viewers have access to DStv), SuperSport will have full rights to Fifa’s content library, which will offer 100+ hours of daily content. Fifa’s access to all 32 teams means that much behind-the-scenes action, restricted to other media, will be broadcast on SuperSport.
SuperSport also has nine crews travelling throughout South Africa to gather footage.
In addition, the Blitz channel will run constant World Cup updates, including weather and traffic reports for stadium-bound football supporters.
SuperSport HD will be made available to DStv Premium subscribers who have an HD-ready television and who access their DStv services through an HD PVR (Personal Video Recorder).
SuperSport.com, meanwhile, will have wall-to-wall coverage and live streaming of every match.
