From Dr. Wangari Maathai and Julius Nyerere to Nelson Mandela, from Emperor Haile Selassie to Patrice Lumumba, across the continent and through the ages, Great African leaders have championed the causes of millions, inspired the imaginations of their peoples and driven the dream of a more successful, brighter tomorrow.
Starting April 5, M-Net celebrates these visionaries for their passion and their determination, for their self sacrificing contributions and their selfless dedication, for being above all, leaders through times of challenge and times of change.
History will remember their achievements; herald their accomplishments and forever look to their example, searching to understand what drove these extraordinary men and women, what motivated their struggle, what defined their search. In this spirit, M-Net has produced seven dedicated films, which run weekly from April 5, and which will profile these unforgettable icons, these unmistakable legends, these Great Africans.
The series will also profile the charismatic revolutionary Captain Thomas Sankara and noted Nigerian academic and scholar Professor Wole Soyinka. Whether you agree with their motivations, argue their significance or debate their merits, these Great Africans influenced the course of African destiny and their impact continues to reverberate around the world, as much as their words resonated with those who followed them.
DStv audiences can tune in for GREAT AFRICANS on M-Net, every Sunday, starting April 5. The first one-hour documentary will profile Nobel Peace Prize winner Dr. Wangari Maathai followed by documentaries on Patrice Lumumba (12 April), Julius Nyerere (19 April), Wole Soyinka (26 April), Thomas Sankara (03 May), Emperor Haile Selassie (10 May) and Nelson Mandela (17 May).
