UNITED NATIONS PUBLIC SERVICE AWARDS 2010 WINNERS!

Public organizations from fifteen countries will be awarded the United Nations Public Service Awards in Barcelona, Spain, on Public Service Day, 23 June 2010. The Awards, the most prestigious recognition of excellence in public service worldwide, are given in four categories:
Improving transparency, accountability and responsiveness in the public service
Improving the delivery of services

Fostering participation in public policy-making decisions through innovative mechanisms
Advancing knowledge management in government
The 2010 winners are from Albania, Australia, Bahrain, Brazil, Canada, Germany, Japan, India, Italy, the Republic of Korea, Lebanon, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Tanzania and Tunisia.
AFRICA 2nd Place Winner
Tanzania Management of sustainable delivery of secured property rights through empowerment and capacity building of local government, Property and Business Formalization Programme
MKURABITA, the Kiswahili acronym for the Property and Business Formalization Programme, is a government initiative designed to provide the legal and institutional framework to make property and business rights accessible to the public at very affordable rates. The goal is to empower property and business owners in the informal sector to gain entry into the formal market economy. The initiative is implemented through a capacity development model at village, district and national levels. Its implementation created a cadre of surveyors, land administrators, hand held GPS users, computer (GIS) experts and land adjudicators at local government levels.
